Multiple Injuries in California Motor Vehicle Accident

by | Apr 24, 2016 | Car Accidents

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a crash that took place at 11:40 p.m. on April 17 that left one dead and eight injured. Police say that a witness saw an SUV leave the scene of a hit-and-run crash on Sepulveda Boulevard before hitting another vehicle that was heading northbound on Haskell Avenue in North Hills.

Authorities say that there were nine people injured in the accident, and three of the victims were children. The children were taken to a pediatric center while the adults were all taken to a hospital where one of the male victims passed away. There was no word as to the severity of the other injuries or whether inclement road conditions played a role in the collision.

If a car accident is caused by a negligent driver, injured victims may want to seek compensation from the at-fault party through a personal injury lawsuit. The surviving family members of a person who has been killed in such an accident may want to pursue appropriate damages through the filing of a wrongful death lawsuit. Negligent driving could be anything from an impaired motorist to one who was speeding or using a cellphone at the time of a crash.

An attorney can assist an injured victim in obtaining compensation for medical bills, lost wages and lost future earnings. Punitive damages may also apply depending on the facts of the case. If a negligent driver was driving an employer’s vehicle and was working at the time of the crash, the employer may also be named as a defendant in a personal injury lawsuit under the theory of vicarious liability.
