A car crash on Highway 50 near Placerville has resulted in multiple injuries and the death of an 11-year-old boy (According to CBS Sacramento).
California Highway Patrol responded to the scene of the one-vehicle accident just after midnight early Wednesday morning, and have reported that the 2001 BMW was heading west on Highway 50 when the driver hit a curve and lost control of the vehicle.
Evidence at the scene appeared to show skid marks where the driver attempted to regain control of the vehicle by braking but instead sent the car into a locked-wheel skid which propelled the vehicle across the eastbound lane before it began its descent down a rocky embankment.
The car flipped as it collided into several large boulders, ejecting one passenger, a 13-year-old girl who wasn’t wearing her seatbelt before it eventually came to rest upside down in a small body of water. Another passenger, a 23-year-old woman, was able to pull herself from the vehicle as passersby rushed to provide assistance and right the vehicle. Medics arrived at the scene and attempted CPR on the 11-year-old boy, but he was later pronounced dead. The driver, identified as a 33-year-old Sacramento resident, was pulled out of the vehicle and airlifted to Sutter Roseville hospital. The 13-year-old girl and 23-year-old woman both escaped the accident with minor injuries.
