The chase started just after 3 am near Red Robin Lane and Darwin streets in the Arden-Arcade area of Sacramento when a deputy ran a license plate on the car and the plate came back as being stolen. After doing the routine check, the officers tried to pull over the vehicle but the female driver sped off at high speeds.

She proceeded to drive eastbound down Madison Avenue at speeds up to 100 mph. Officers ahead placed a spike strip in the roadway which punctured one tire in the vehicle but the driver continued down Madison Avenue and over the Rainbow Bridge into the older part of Folsom according to Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Sgt. Tony Turnbull.

As the driver rounded the corner from Rainbow Bridge into Old Folsom, the car slid off the road and crashed into the Maribou hair salon at 702 Sutter St. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation by the Sheriff’s Department will attempt to determine the reasons for her failure to pull over but one thing for certain is the dangers of reckless and dangerous driving. Turnball describes “it as dangerous because of the speeds that were reached”.

Although the license plate came back stolen, deputies could not confirm the vehicle was stolen because the car was severely damaged. The woman’s identity has not been released yet.

Luckily, the chase happened around 3 am when not that many cars were on the road but it could have easily involved more people if it was at a different hour.
